1. About this policy
This privacy policy is published by [Legal entity name] trading as Sky Solar (“Sky Solar”, “we”, “us” or “our”). We are committed to protecting your privacy and to handling your personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
This policy explains how we collect, use, hold and disclose personal information when you use our website, contact us, request a quote, or buy and use our products and services. By using our website or giving us your information, you consent to us handling it as described in this policy.
“Personal information” means information or an opinion about an identified individual, or an individual who is reasonably identifiable.
2. Information we collect
We only collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our business. Depending on how you deal with us, this may include:
- Contact details — your name, phone number, email address, postal address and installation address.
- Property details — whether you own the property, roof size, orientation, type and pitch, number of storeys, switchboard and meter details, and photos you send us.
- Energy information — your electricity bills, usage data and details of any existing solar or battery system.
- Product interests — whether you are interested in solar, batteries, EV chargers or commercial systems, your requirements and your timeframe.
- Rebate eligibility information — where you apply for a government program such as Solar Victoria, the information that program requires (for example, household income and property value declarations).
- Payment and finance information — where you buy from us or apply for finance.
- Feedback and reviews, and any other information you choose to give us.
You can deal with us anonymously or using a pseudonym for general enquiries, but we will need your details to provide a quote or install a system.
3. How we collect it
We collect personal information only by lawful and fair means, and only when you knowingly and voluntarily provide it. We usually collect it directly from you, for example when you:
- complete a “Get a quote”, “Contact us” or similar form on our website;
- call, email or message us, or speak with our team;
- have a site assessment or installation at your property; or
- register a warranty or request support.
With your consent, we may also collect information from third parties such as finance providers, government rebate programs or your electricity distributor.
4. Website analytics & cookies
When you visit our website, we may collect information for analysis, including how often you visit, which pages you view and for how long, the browser and device you use, and your IP address.
We use cookies to understand traffic patterns and user actions (such as how many people submit a form), and to recognise your device when you return. Cookies identify your device, not you personally. Most browsers accept cookies automatically, but you can change your settings to refuse them; some website features may then not work.
We may also use remarketing cookies to show you relevant Sky Solar advertising on other websites. You can opt out of interest-based advertising through the Network Advertising Initiative at optout.networkadvertising.org, through Google's Ad Settings, or by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
5. How we use your information
We use your personal information to:
- respond to your enquiry and prepare your quote and system design;
- supply and install your solar, battery or related system;
- claim federal incentives on your behalf, including STCs and the Cheaper Home Batteries Program, and submit your details to Solar Victoria so it can contact you to complete your program application;
- arrange grid connection approval and meter changeover;
- arrange finance, where you request it;
- register warranties and provide ongoing service and support;
- improve our website, products and services;
- send you information about products, services and offers (see section 7); and
- meet our legal and regulatory obligations.
We will not use your personal information for any other purpose that you would not reasonably expect, unless you consent or the law requires or permits it.
6. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We only share it where needed to deliver our services, or where the law requires it, including with:
- Solar Victoria, so it can contact you to verify your eligibility and complete your rebate or interest-free loan application;
- the Clean Energy Regulator and registered agents, to create small-scale technology certificates (STCs) and claim federal incentives;
- your electricity distributor and retailer, for grid connection and meter changes;
- accredited installers, electricians and contractors working on our behalf;
- equipment manufacturers and distributors, for warranty registration and support;
- finance providers you choose to apply with;
- Virtual Power Plant providers, if you choose to join one;
- our IT, cloud hosting, CRM, communications and marketing service providers; and
- government agencies, regulators or law enforcement, where required or authorised by law.
We require these parties to handle your information appropriately. We do not control the websites or privacy practices of third parties, and we encourage you to read their privacy policies.
7. Marketing communications
We may contact you about new products, services, promotions or special offers that we think may interest you. You can opt out at any time by using the unsubscribe link in our emails, replying STOP to our SMS messages, or contacting us. We comply with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).
8. Overseas storage
Some of our service providers, such as cloud hosting and CRM providers, may store information on servers located outside Australia. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure your information is protected in a way that is consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles. If you ask us to stop using your information and it has been disclosed overseas, we will take all reasonable steps to comply with your request.
9. Security & retention
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. However, no data transmission over the internet can be guaranteed as fully secure.
We keep personal information for as long as we need it to provide our services, support your warranty and meet legal, tax and regulatory record-keeping requirements. When it is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it.
We may combine information for analysis, but only after it has been de-identified.
10. Reviews & emails
If you give us a review of our products or services, we may publish it on our website and marketing materials, using only your first name and suburb or state unless you agree otherwise.
We may monitor emails sent to us for troubleshooting, maintenance or to prevent abuse, and we will keep email content where the law requires us to.
11. Access & correction
You can ask to access the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct, update or delete it. We will respond within a reasonable time, usually 30 days. We may decline a request where the law permits — for example, where we must keep records by law — and we will explain why.
If you ask us not to use your personal information in a particular way, or at all, we will comply, except where you later consent to that use, where it is reasonably necessary to assist a law enforcement or government agency, or where we are required by law.
12. Complaints
If you believe we have breached your privacy, please contact us using the details below. We will investigate and respond within 30 days, in line with our Complaints Policy.
13. Changes & contact
We may update this policy from time to time. The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated. Please check it periodically.
